At one point, I wanted to change my hairstyle. I was thinking about getting a perm, maybe trying a different color, but I had no clear idea what would actually look good on me.

So I started using different online hairstyle try-on websites and apps. I wanted to see how different hairstyles might look on my own face before making a real decision.

But after trying many of them, I was not very satisfied.

A few problems kept showing up:

• There were not many hairstyle options to choose from.

• Many hairstyles did not look like real haircuts. They felt more like random AI-generated styles instead of something a real salon could create.

• Some websites asked me to fill in a lot of information, and I was not sure why it was needed.

• The whole experience often felt more like a fun AI toy than a practical tool for making a haircut decision.

That experience made me think:

Maybe hairstyle try-on should be more useful than this.

So I started building HairstylesPro, an AI hairstyle try-on tool designed to help people preview more realistic hairstyle directions before going to a salon.

What Hairstyle Try-On Is Really Trying to Solve

Changing your hairstyle is a very personal decision.

It can also feel a little risky.

For example, someone may want to change from long hair to a bob. Another person may want to try short hair, bangs, curls, or a new hair color.

But the real question is usually not:

“Is this hairstyle beautiful?”

The real question is:

That is the hard part.

The Biggest Thing I Learned

At first, I thought the most important part would be the AI generation quality.

But later, I realized that the hairstyle library itself is just as important.

If users can only choose very broad options like “short hair” or “curly hair,” the tool is not very helpful.

A useful hairstyle try-on product should help users explore more specific hairstyle directions, such as:

• A-line bob

• Blunt bob

• Wavy bob

• Curly bob

• Short layered haircut

• Medium length hairstyle

• Long layers

These are much more useful because people are not just trying to “change hairstyle.”

They are trying to find a real haircut direction that they can understand, compare, and maybe even show to a hairstylist.

For example, “bob haircut” is not just one hairstyle. An A-line bob, blunt bob, wavy bob, and curly bob can all feel very different.

So the product should not only generate images. It should also help users understand and compare hairstyle choices.

Product Experience Matters More Than I Expected

While building the website, I also noticed that many small details affect user trust.

For a hairstyle try-on tool, the experience needs to feel simple and safe.

The upload process should be easy. The hairstyle categories should be clear. The results should be easy to compare. The hairstyle images should not look fake.

This is especially important because hairstyle is closely connected to personal appearance. Users can be sensitive about how they look, and if the result feels too artificial or unrealistic, trust drops quickly.

Privacy is also important.

People are uploading personal photos, so I wanted the product to be clear about how images are handled. On HairstylesPro, uploaded photos are not meant to be stored permanently, and uploaded images automatically expire after 8 hours.

To me, this is not just a small detail. It is part of making the product feel more respectful and trustworthy.

So I learned that building this kind of product is not simply about connecting an AI model.

It is about combining AI, realistic hairstyle content, user experience, and the actual decision-making process behind changing hair.

Why I’m Still Building HairstylesPro

Based on these thoughts, I started building HairstylesPro.

The goal is simple:

Let users browse different hairstyles, upload their own photo, and preview different haircut directions on their own face.

The site currently includes several hairstyle categories, such as:

• Bob hairstyles

• Short hairstyles

• Medium hairstyles

• Long hairstyles

• Men hairstyles

I do not want it to be just another “try it for fun” AI tool.

I want it to become something genuinely useful for people who are thinking about changing their hairstyle but are not sure what direction to choose.

Final Thoughts

One thing I learned from building this project is that an AI product should not only show how powerful AI is.

It should help users solve a real problem.

For HairstylesPro, the problem is simple:

Before actually cutting or styling their hair, can users get a clearer idea of what hairstyle direction may suit them?

That is the reason I will keep improving this product.

Hairstyle decisions should feel more visual, more confident, and less stressful.
